Married Johanna Schütz in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and upon her death (3 yrs) married her sister Bertha Schütz. The sisters were born in Pobloth Kreis Kolberg, Pommern Germany.

Traveling to the USA in April 1883 with Wilhelm and Johanna were Emilie, William J and Herman. They arrived in Baltimore on the Hohenzollern of the German Lloyd Line. Also on this ship were Emilie's husband Friedrich Grulke and their (3) children.
